Discovered the connection to many health problems today, the S2 protein allergen

    Cottonseed oil –  in Testosterone  Cypionate -  Major allergy, picture link below, took months to identify cause.
    Sesame seed - -   in Testosterone  Enanthate  -  Allergy, showed up in about a month?
    Walnuts  - not feeling well after eating noted about a year ago, may test again, after skin clears up.


Allergen name of Ber e 1 , includes walnut, cottonseed, sunflower, castor bean.

Will avoid ingesting items from same table: (Sunflower seed)  (Sesame) (Yellow mustard)
  Maybe avoid  (Cashew nut) (peanuts) (Buckwheat) (Sunflower seed)  (Soya , listed as minor)

Atopic dermatitis  (eczema)  most often occurs where your skin flexes — inside the elbows, behind the knees.



Oils are:      Cottonseed oil in Testosterone Cypronate.   Sesame seed oil in Testosterone Enanthate


Cottonseed oil's allergen is the 2S protein. As a water-soluble protein, the 2S albumin storage protein contains structural, functional and biochemical properties responsible for determining its allergenicity.... provokes an allergic reaction in certain individuals.

Allergic reactions caused by the 2S proteins include atopic dermatitis and, in severe cases, minor swelling or hives. Individuals suffering from atopic dermatitis caused by cottonseed oil will experience patches of red, itchy, flaky skin, with the insides of knees and elbows prone to this type of allergic reaction.
Sesame seed allergy is not new (it was first reported in the 1950s), but it has become increasingly common and now is one of the top 10 causes of food allergies.
Sesame oil is made by cold-pressing sesame seeds and is not refined, so retains most of its allergenicity. It is used ‘unrefined’ in food products and as a result it contains sesame allergens which can cause reactions to those allergic to sesame seed.
Sesame oil (sesamum indicum) is also used in pharmaceutical products

Computer Upgrade - G3200

Ed's main computer just had an upgrade.

The highly flexible custom computer was built in Feb 2010. Before boot-up, any one of four operating system/data configurations can be chosen by toggle switch. During the last few days, a solid-state "drive C"  was added, RAM was doubled producing quite a boost in performance. Processor runs at 3.2 GHz.

As of 11/11/16, they're four installations of Windows 10. The one on a 120GB SSD got today's attention. That drive, during formatting somehow wound up with 15GB unallocated space. Used EaseUS - Manage your partitions     http://www.partition-tool.com/   Quickly resize, move, merge and split partitions without data loss to make better use of hard drive capacity.
-  WORKED Perfectly - Recovered 14.57 GB of lost space (unseen, unallocated ) on the SSD.
Now, used space is 18.8GB,  Free space is 92.2GB.

First post on Blogger after a long absence 

A new sense of well being was achieved by obtaining a good hormone balance.  I now need only 7 hours of sleep to feel on top of the world with energy lasting all day long. Thank you, Dr Jan Yuo (Montrose) for being diligent. I have a thousand bookmarks on this subject! There are optimum levels for Testosterone and Estrogen that become more important as we get older (males and females).

My good life now has a combination of intellectual stimulation, exercise (hiking and gym), healthy eating, and  social interactions. A diary of sorts, by way of pictures, is on Flickr.

CGEM mounts fail to autoguide correctly.
This keeps coming up on the chat board.
Many times confused with mechanical backlash.

My award for the most creative fix for CGEM cogging motors goes to Geert.

"Hello
I finally got a good simple working solution.
It is not very nice, but it is very simple and best of all, it works as it
should.

I putted a piece of cotton string with a couple of oil drops as a brake on the
motor axis.
The string is is about 2mm thick and the nice thing is that it is fastened with
the same screws which fastens the gear set to the motor so it can not move out
of place.
I added a picture of it in the file section under gvanhau.

Hope this solution is usefull for other who have the same problem.

PHD autoguide is a joy to use on a backlash free mount.

Note: If you use a Bias frame you must first pre-process your dark frames by applying the MASTER BIAS frame to it, making the dark frames, a “clean” dark frame, using this cleaned dark frame when you pre-process your light frames. The uncleaned dark frame has the bias signal in it as well. If you do not do this, during pre-processing you will not remove the bias component. Don’t worry; I have instructions on what to do.
1. Cover the scope and take as many Bias frames as you did DARKFRAMES. Use the shortest duration time allowed by the software. Don’t get the BIASDARK confused with your DARKFRAMES. If you took 10 DARKFRAMES then you want to take 10 BIAS frames at 1ms.
2. Now, combine your Bias frames together and label it master bias.
3. Now, you must apply your MASTER BIAS frame to each individual DARK frame. Use the same method as though you were applying the dark frame to your light frames. Refer to STEP 2 ‘How to process images’. Combine the master BIAS frame to each DARK frame. When you use the process in step 2 you will select only bias then click done. Once you have done that, instead of selecting light frames like the window says you will simply select your dark frames. The DARK frames should now be labeled with PPRC attached to it. To keep it in simple terms, if you labeled your DARK frames as CRABDARK. They will now read “pproc_CRABDARK”
4. Now that the MASTER BIAS frame has been removed from the Dark frames, you need to stack the DARK frames that are labeled pproc. Once the dark frames have been combined, label the dark frames ‘FINALDARK’ or whatever you want, just as long as you know that the final bias process has been been completed. The ‘FINALDARK’ frame is what you will use in Neb to process in your light frames. When you process your frames the ‘FINALDARK ' will be used as your ‘MASTERDARK’ frame.
Tip. You can take your bias frames the same time you take your dark frames.
DON’T TRY TO CUT CORNERS TO SAVE TIME. YOU CAN’T STACK THE DARK FRAMES TOGETHER THEN REMOVE THE BIAS

Mechanical backlash (as differentiated from gear backlash) is caused by static friction. Typically on the order of a few arcseconds, mechanical backlash is only seen when making small position adjustments in the same direction with a complete stop between each adjustment. This situation occurs frequently during pulse guiding. Mechanical backlash can make it appear that your mount is “stuck” and unable to guide in Declination. (It doesn’t apply to RA because that axis doesn’t stop moving between guiding pulses.) This document describes methods to help combat mechanical backlash while pulse guiding

Tip #1
The mechanical backlash can be increased or decreased dramatically (a factor of 2 or more) with a gravitational assist. For example, suppose the star in your image is drifting to the north in DEC. If you hang a small weight on one end of the tube so that it tends to pull north, this will keep the gears pre-tensioned in that direction. Thus the mechanical backlash in that direction will be less. Of course, mechanical backlash in the other direction will be worse by the same amount, but since changing direction also requires overcoming the gear backlash, which is many times larger, it won’t be noticed. Don’t get carried away though, too much weight can cause serious overshoot of the DEC axis when it first starts to slide. Start small and work upwards.
If this trick is not possible (as is the case in a remote observatory) then you must make sure your tube is well balanced in DEC. Don't let it become heavy in the direction of North or South. Rebalance it after you change camera equipment. The “Set Mount Position” function in the Utilities menu can be used to accomplish this without losing your alignment.

Tip #2:
Auto guiding software has multiple parameters that can help you address mechanical backlash. It is different in every package. One such parameter allows you to set the maximum pulse duration. This must be long enough to overcome the mechanical backlash on your system. If you can't control maximum duration, try increasing the AG rate setting with you hand control. Another setting to look for is the one that controls the minimum displacement before acting. For example, say you have a mount with a mechanical backlash of 3 arcSeconds. If you set the software to require a minimum of 3.5 arcseconds before reacting it will be sure to send a pulse long enough to overcome the mechanical backlash plus a little bit more. Of course, the net displacement of the mount, after accounting for the mechanical backlash, will be only 0.5 arcSeconds, and the drift error will still be 3.0 seconds. But once error rises to 3.5 arcSeconds, the software will again send a pulse of 3.5 arcSeconds, and you get another net gain of 0.5 arcSeconds. Thus, the mount will move in tiny steps of 0.5 arcSeconds, but always 3.0 arcSeconds behind. As long as you start your exposure after first correction from the AG software, the star will not drift during your exposure by more than 0.5 arcSeconds.

FINAL NOTE:
Mechanical backlash has been around for a long time. Using tips like the ones I described above, successful imagers have worked around mechanical backlash for many years.

The bright yellow star, Miram (Eta Persei) shines at mag 3.76
The last part, with the dawn, is missing, as it runs > 1 1/2 minutes, Flickr limit - (slow frame rate)
I would like it to run for about 40 seconds, but see no way in MS Movie Maker to set this speed - anybody know how?

Two weeks after Comet Hartley has its close encounter with Earth, NASA will have a close encounter with the comet. The EPOXI spacecraft (formerly known as Deep Impact) is hurtling toward Comet Hartley now, and on Nov. 4th it will fly 435 miles from the comet's active icy nucleus. The encounter will mark only the fifth time in history that a spacecraft has been close enough to image a comet's core.

The comet position is used.
A first stack is created to extract the comet from the background.
Then a second stack is created to freeze the star (the comet is subtracted from each calibrated and registered light frame before stacking it).
Last, the final image is obtained by inserting the comet back in the image."

Springfield SCT (SSCT), a compact fixed eyepiece telescope


This project is to modernize the Springfield telescope design for portability, with light pollution being a motivating factor. The modern SCT makes this possible. Quick, tool-free setup is a design goal. Removing the commonly used overhead counterweight is important for safety reasons.
The joys of being seated, holding comfortably onto the eyepiece can't be overstated. The ultimate user friendly telescope, fixed eyepiece and capable of having the observer in a warmed room. A real godsend to those in wheelchair or with muscle deficiencies.

Springfield SCT (SSCT) achieved first light on power pole insulator 6/18/10, on sky 6/21/10.

Much tidy-up to do, like exchanging Amici prism for 99% diagonal.

The main thing is IT WORKS.

Russell Porter invented the Springfield telescope design about 1920, using the term "fixed eyepiece". The development of the SCT happened after Porter's writings.
